REFLECTION
Experience
Advanced Typography has provided me different learning opportunities. As an extension to the Typography Module in Semester 1, this module is a definite level up in terms of tasks and difficulty. I was looking forward to this module after Semester 1, however I did not expect it to be this time-consuming and quite energy-draining as well. Nonetheless, I am grateful for the experience of the different assignments from this module. I had fun creating different typographic layouts and creating my own typefaces.
Observations
Through this module, I've observed some things about my creative self. I've always been interested in Calligraphy and Typography, however this hands-on experience gave me a challenge I truly wasn't expecting. I found it difficult to illustrate myself through branding and graphics. But because of these challenges, I've had to work harder and I have become a little more knowledgeable in the typographic field. Discipline and attention to detail is essential in creating a design, especially during the crafting of letterforms. Not to forget the importance of research as well, to ensure intentions aren't ill-met.
Findings
As a graphic design specialization, I'm starting to realize how my future projects will be like. I am grateful that I have an idea of what it will be like to create branding, expansions of logos, forming full alphabet typefaces, etc. Throughout Task 2, I was doubting myself in my skills, however I realize that practice does make progress, and thus I persevered. Now, I am feeling excited to carry out future projects related to graphic design.
This module has taught me that things may not be as expected, but we must not let it discourage us. As a whole, I'd say my experience in Advanced Typography was an enjoyable struggle.
