Project 1: Exercise 1 - Audio Dubbing
For Project 1, we were required to do perform audio dubbing and edit them in Adobe Premiere Pro.
We were provided with a clip from Everything Everywhere All At Once muted, and we are to record our own voiceovers and include appropriate sound effects.

First, I listed down the clips, timeframes of the video and included the sound effects and dialogue I needed in a Spreadsheet. This way, it would be easier to find the resources and compile them as needed.

Then I used my phone and recorded the dialogues needed. There are some replicas because as I was editing, I realized that my recordings weren't good enough so I rerecorded them. Afterwards, I searched for the sound effects on YouTube and https://freesound.org/. I compiled all of the files into a folder and began the editing process on Premiere Pro.

I first arranged the dialogue to match the visuals on screen. To create the man's voice, I lowered the semi-tones to -5, and for the office lady, I gave her a higher pitched voice by increasing the semi-tones to 1.
Then, I added the sound effects in different track layers. I layered the ambience of the janitor's closet and office in the bottom most layer. I also layered some of the sound effects on top of each other, for example in the scene where there is dialogue, the rustling of the mop, the sound of the door wood breaking, and also included some muffled screaming coming from outside of the room.

Project 1: Exercise 2 - Sound Shaping
For Exercise 2 of this Project, we were tasked to record our own voice for 5 seconds, then do the required sound editing with Adobe Audition. We were required to create the effects for:
- Voice from a phone call
- Voice coming from inside a closet
- Voice inside a toilet/bathroom
- Voice in an underground cave
- Voice of an alien/orc
First, I recorded a 5 second audio file of my voice:
Audio 1.1 Original Voice
Then, I uploaded the audio track into Adobe Audition. Following the tutorial slides as well as the tutorial taught by Mr. Martin in class, I created a new Multitrack file > Filters and EQ > Parametric Equalizer, and did the adjustments to create the phone call effect.
I created another Multitrack file > Filters and EQ > Parametric Equalizer, and changed the adjustments to create the muffled effect, as if the voice is coming from inside a closet.

For the voice in the toilet/bathroom, I created yet another Multitrack file > Reverb then I used the preset Room Ambience.

The underground cave is similar to the toilet, but it needs more echo so I increased the Decay Time, Diffusion and Perception. I also decreased the Dry to 70% and increased the Wet to 70%.

Finally, to create the alien voice, I used the preset The Dark Lord, but I adjusted the Semi-tones to -7 and Cents to 13 instead to create a more alien voice, instead of a dark evil villain-creature type voice.

REFLECTION
Project 1: Exercise 1
This project was a great experience to full familiarize myself with using Adobe Premiere Pro. As I have done some exercises, they were mostly dealing with compiling or editing clips together, but this time I got to experiment with audios and that was quite interesting. However, it is not to say that this project was quite tedious and also time-consuming, especially in finding the sound effects that fit well and also making sure the timings match. Overall, I'm glad I got to experience audio editing on Premiere Pro through this project.
Project 1: Exercise 2
This project is quite fun for me, I enjoyed the process of experimenting with audio itself. I now have a better understanding of how a single audio file can be edited in many different ways to obtain different results. I had a fun time in discovering a new software as well (Adobe Audition), I had the opportunity to discover the different options and explore the effects. I can use this knowledge to edit audios in future projects as well.
