FEEDBACK

WEEK 1 (Task 1)
  • Start working on literature review on our own time.

  • Start creating the matrix table to be shown next week

WEEK 2
  • Identified the themes quite clearly already.

  • Together, we redefined the themes into the sub-titles to begin writing.

  • Dr. Jinchi suggested to add more literature (if necessary), it can be design books/journal articles/etc. don’t use blogs

WEEK 3
  • Add a short introductory paragraph before 5.1 recapping my research questions

  • 5.1 is already okay

  • 5.2 Can recap RQs again before starting 5.2.1

  • 5.2.1 Can add images as well (make sure to use figure numbers). Also make sure to add evidence in the quantitative data to survey results.

  • Also make sure to elaborate further later in 5.3 (target audience, reasons of design choices)

WEEK 4
  • When adding responses from my survey, just type it out and make sure to include long answers.

  • Make sure to not include discussions for 5.3 in section 5.2

WEEK 5
  • In section 5.2, make sure to establish the target audiences of the packaging designs before elaborating on the design elements.

  • Section 5.3 brand identity, can overall expand more, separate the discussions by brand. For example, can explain the significance of the mascots, meanings of the images and messages they convey

WEEK 6
  • Remember to add captions to the images (not just Fig. xx)

  • In the responses, A/B/C make sure to add what the actual cereal packaging is in square brackets.

  • Can add more in terms of design in conclusion of section 5.3.2

  • Everything else is already good, can wrap up the conclusion and finish up the literature review.

WEEK 7
  • Have a short intro before starting the Literature Review

  • For the conclusion, can recap the research methods and include limitations

  • Project recommendation: creative projects, Future research: academic

  • Don’t forget the abstract

WEEK 8 (ILW)

WEEK 9 (Task 2)
  • Typeface chosen #4 (degular display, helvetica)

  • Concept 2, it’s important to make sure to make the illustrations are not too vector-like

  • Color scheme can mix and match more from the different ones showed

  • Overall leaning more to concept 1, but typefaces and colors can use the ones from concept 2

  • Can try with some layouts next week and we’ll see from there

WEEK 10
  • Colors, maybe don’t use the green, can instead incorporate blue as well

  • Can include image cutouts of the packaging, or just maintain the same vector-like organic shapes of the cereal as decorative elements

  • When including images, make sure it doesn’t disrupt my concept of the vector-like shapes

  • Layouts are okay and can proceed

WEEK 11 (Task 3)
  • In the table of contents, include the subtopics of 2.0. Research topic also missing

  • 3.1, include the justification of design elements chosen

  • 3.2, add the survey design and justification of questions

  • Everything else is already good

WEEK 13
  • Add a few changes of wording & format (use semicolons instead of commas for the information page)

  • Add one citation is missing as well

  • Can include the images of the chosen packaging designs in the image format given, or add images in appendices

  • Can finish until discussion until conclusion and finish all by week 14

REFLECTION

Experience
This module has been quite the journey. It was good that we already had the information from our Design Research Methodology Module and we just jad to expand on it, making the work less heavy. We just had to improve on some things from our final task in that module and expand on a few more things. After working on the dissertation, I also enjoyed creating the flipbook as it was like a break from the actual research and heavy duty stuff. Overall, this module has been pretty informative thanks to Dr. Jinchi's guidance.

Observations
When I found myself stuck writing my dissertation, I referred back to the notes shared by Dr. Jinchi and the matrix table that we initially made to identify the themes in our findings. I found that quite helpful and I now know the importance of creating an outline before writing a dissertation to make sure all our information is clear and organized. With that, I was able to improve on some aspects in my Results & Findings section and also ensure my Discussion was well-organized.

Findings
I found that writing a dissertation was not easy, especially about the information needed. Whilst writing the items in my Discussion, I found myself writing quite a lot, but then I noticed I was mostly repeating some aspects I've already written either in my Results & Findings or even in the previous sections of my Discussion. With this, I had to learn how to only include the necessary information only, quality over quantity.
