Task 2: Taylor's Coffee Cup Design
TASK 2
For this task, we were required to design a coffee cup for The Culinary Institute for Taylor's Open Day 2025. We were given a brief on this task:

I partnered up with Annalien and we first created some concepts and sketches.
After showing Ms. Vi, we realized we actually had one similar concept throughout. She gave us the yes signal and we could proceed with sketches and actual designing. We agreed on a color scheme, a more minimalist concept and using coffee beans as leaves to promote sustainability and coffee lovers.
Week 5
We both created our own designs throughout the week and we decided on which ones to use as out final submissions.

FEEDBACK
Week 4
We created the concepts for our coffee cup, visual references and some color palettes. Ms. Vi said our concepts turned out to be quite similar to each others so we decided on a more minimalist, line art concept.

Week 5
We created a few designs and we picked out our favorites from each others and were advised on the items required to be submitted.
Week 6
General Feedback: Ms. Vi said we all have great concepts, but there is definitely room for improvement in the execution, then she guided us through the brief process of concepts and design thinking process.
REFLECTION
This task was quite fun yet challenging. This was the first time I created a design that had an actual client on the other side, and it resulted in some pressure. I kept thinking about what the client would like instead of how I myself would like to bring forth this idea, thus it might have led to a more basic design. This is something I'll keep in mind for the future when I start to design for future clients.
I had the experience to work with a partner in this task, which helped in brainstorming ideas to make sure they were cohesive. It also helped ease the pressure because we communicated properly and ensured that both of us were in the right track.
Overall, I'd say this process was quite smooth, though there are still room for improvement
Why takeaway coffee cup designs are so important
Coffee cups for takeout have developed from straightforward drink carriers to important marketing instruments that enhance brand recognition. Many customers increasingly identify their favorite coffee shops with their own lifestyles as a result of cafés becoming into innovative social hubs. Coffee companies concentrate on cup design in order to engage consumers, utilizing artwork and materials that are consistent with their brand values. A visually appealing cup design can increase brand recall and consumer trust.
Minimalist Coffee Cup Design
Custom-printed takeout cups can be a useful marketing tool, but if the design is overly busy, buyers may miss important brand details. With recyclable paper cups that have a straightforward, attractive design, Spring Valley Coffee in Nairobi, Kenya, exemplifies a well-thought-out strategy. Their cups feature black drawings of a bird and stars with purposeful white space to maintain the design's balance and let the brand's branding stand out.
