Task 2
LECTURES
Week 7
This week, Mr. Hafiz explained the use of foreground, mid-ground, and background in a good composition.
He also provided a YouTube video for reference on an excellent animated piece with great use of the rule of thirds, as well as composition.

Mr. Hafiz also briefed us on our Task 2, to create an editorial piece based on an urban legend.

INSTRUCTIONS
Gradient & Textures Exercise
Mr. Hafiz taught us how to apply gradients and textures to a vector artwork and we practiced it with an illustration provided.

After adding the gradients and textures, I ended up with the final illustration below:

Task 2: Decisive Moment
For Task 2, we were supposed to choose an urban legend and illustrate the "decisive moment" or the turning point in the legend. It can be from either our own countries or other countries. The urban legend I chose is "Sundel Bolong", it is an Indonesian urban legend that tells the tale of a pregnant woman who died due to a rape, reportedly leading her to give birth in her grave, through her back, leaving a gaping red hole.
First, I created a rough sketch of my illustration, the rationale and a mood board.

Then, I placed the sketch on Adobe Illustrator and started to work on my illustration. Below shows my progress, where I started with the flat piece, then I started to add more details.

Finally, I added some gradient and textures to finalize the piece.

Animation
Next, we had to animate the final artwork on Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
I decided to add lightning in the background as the secondary action as Mr. Hafiz mentioned that the animation does not need to be too drastic. First I drew the lightning of each frame on Illustrator. I added a blue outer glow to give it a greater effect.

I produced a total of 9 frames which can be found here. Then, I exported the files to Photoshop and created a frame animation. I set the first frame to 0,5 sec to give it a moment of anticipation before the animation starts.

REFLECTION
This task was quite challenging for me as I'm not quite good at illustrations. However, with the skills I've learned using the Pen Tool, the Pencil Tool, the Pathfinder Tool, I was able to bring my sketch to life with into the vectors in Illustrator. I also found that the gradients and textures really helped elevate my overall illustration.
