LECTURE

Introduction to Photoshop
This week, Mr. Fauzi introduced us to Photoshop. He taught us about the Pen Tool and also Layering in Photoshop.

Pen Tool
- the most essential tool in Photoshop
- helps us create shapes and also mask images

Layering
- each object/image is a certain layer stacked together
- allows us to edit an object without affecting the others

TUTORIAL

Mr. Fauzi then demonstrated to us the basics on using the Pen tool to mask out items. With this, he also did one collage with the masked out images and helped us in the process of making our own.

PRACTICAL

After knowing how to cut out items in Photoshop, we were tasked to create our own compositions. A total of 3 different compositions must be made.

Below are the compositions I made:

The first composition is made along with Mr. Fauzi as he was teaching us the steps on how to use the tools on Photoshop.

Fig 1.1 Composition #1 - Week 3 (19/10/23)
Fig 1.2 Composition #2 - Week 3 (19/10/23)

Fig 1.3 Composition #3 - Week 3 (19/10/23)

I picked Composition #3 as my final composition for next week's exercise, which is adjustment layers.
For this composition, my idea was to illustrate as if the old projector was displaying my collage. I used the Pen Tool to cut out the shape in the black texture, as if the projector is playing. I added some elements in the black background, adding the guy in the bench looking out to the audience. Underneath the man standing, I masked out a circle from one of the orange textures, as if the man is standing on a portal. I also added the fish to add a bit of the absurdity that comes with many digital collages.
