Week 5

LECTURE

This week, Mr. Fauzi taught us about the basics in photography.

Exposure Setting
- Iris: to control the flow of light into the lens
- Shutter: sheet that controls light that enters the lens
        - different shutter speeds produce different outcomes
- ISO: sensitivity of film

Lens Perspective
- focal length: measurement from the optical center of a camera's lens to its sensor

TUTORIAL

Then, Mr. Fauzi showed us a video tutorial on how to set-up a DIY photo studio with materials we can find around our own home, showing us how good photography doesn't necessarily need expensive and fancy equipment.

PRACTICAL

Digital Imaging Exercise
Afterwards, Mr. Fauzi assigned us a task to practice color correction. For Part 1 of the exercise, we were supposed to first mask a photo of Shazam and Photoshop it into the Hearst Mansion photograph. We were also supposed to do the appropriate color correction to the subject to make the overall result better.

After following the steps in the tutorial slides given by Mr. Fauzi, I created my own version below:

My Reflection
Then, we had to implement the same steps but using a picture of ourselves. Below is the original picture of me:
Fig 1.4 Picture of me

I started to mask myself out using the Quick Selection Tool and manually cleaned up the rough edges with the Brush Tool.

Then I dragged the mask to the original background where I did the color correction using the Match Color option in Image > Adjustments.

After that, I used the Brush Tool to add a shadow, applying Gaussian Blur and setting the opacity down to 66%.

Then, I added my reflection by duplicating the layer with myself, flipping it horizontally, adjusting the Hue/Saturation and Lightness, and adding Filter > Distort > Ripples.

Finally, I was finished with the final end-product below:
